Platform for Performance is an officially registered charitable community organisation, which organises Air Fusion and other events for local young people such as band and DJ club nights, plus offering support to other community events ? skate activities, music / drama productions and outdoor functions.
The aims of Platform are to provide a platform for the education and development of performance for young people in the arts. Promoting a professional environment to give young people a taste of the arts, and cultural entertainment industry, involving young people from all walks of life regardless of creed, striving to be socially inclusive.
The work of Platform for Performance is two-fold, to provide opportunities for young people to develop their music, dance and drama skills leading to professionally supported performances, and to organise training and mentoring projects for young people in arts and media. Platform for Performance empowers local young people by ensuring their involvement in the planning and delivery of all our projects including peer training, event organisation & management and also performance projects.
In the weeks leading up to the festival a range of arts, drama, music and dance workshops take place throughout Newton Abbot, giving local young people new experiences and the opportunity to create artworks, music, dance and drama to be showcased at the festival.
Platform was formed following the first Air Fusion Festival in July 2000 which grew out of regular summer events arranged by Teignbridge District Council and Coombeshead College Recording Studio. These had involved young people in bands and contemporary dance pieces, demonstrating enormous ability and enthusiasm. The second festival expanded to a packed weekend and the third trialed Decoy Country Park. The fourth established the festival at Courtenay Park with its lovely surroundings, big trees and children?s play area. It is just opposite the railway station and free parking is available for the weekend at the Forde House Council car park, just around the corner.
