airfusion free festival - A WEEKEND TO LOOK FORWARD TO!

Air Fusion is held in Courtenay Park, in the market town of Newton Abbot, South Devon at the end of the summer term in July. It attracts thousands of people over the three days - people of all ages, particularly families in the daytimes and young people in the evenings.

airfusion offers a programme of outdoor performances - street entertainers, comedy, music (including pop and rock bands, reggae, junk band, African music, tabla, decks, show time), theatre and dance. Much of this work is selected from young local groups, with professional acts throughout and headline bands at night. Hundreds of young people have performed at Air Fusion to date giving their confidence a real boost.

"I was s--- scared waiting to go on stage, but when I was up there with the mic in my hand and the audience going wild I just went for it! Such an incredible feeling to wow all those people and so different from school shows" Kelly 2001.

A major draw for many young people is the dance tent with known DJ's from the club circuit playing dance music to a packed floor accompanied by amazing projections.

The production for Air Fusion is managed by a crew of mainly young people with considerable experience of other festivals and venues, supported by adults. Over 80 young volunteers get involved in erecting staging backdrops, setting up lighting and PA systems, laying electrical cables, preparing signage and artworks. During the event they operate the sound and lights, stage-manage programmes on 3 stages, assist with stewarding and security, and after the event they dismantle everything and clear the site.

The festival is licensed by Teignbridge District Council and close liaison with the police ensures excellent support from all concerned. Funding has been obtained from many sources over the years - National Lottery / Arts Council, Teignbridge District Council, Newton Abbot Town Council, Stagecoach Theatre Arts, local businesses with support in kind from Coombeshead Studios, Ace Hire, Stage Electrics and other firms.

The publicity is produced by Platform and distributed to young people and the general public. The task of putting up posters is carried out by young volunteers, keen for the festival to be a success. Press and regional events magazines have featured the festival, with local radio and TV broadcasting interviews and music. Air Fusion offers a platform for performance to local young people at a free festival with a huge audience, a very positive image, good technical provision, experienced support, professional publicity and a vibrant atmosphere. Don't miss it!
